Las Vegas Mass Shooting

In one of my recent blog posts I talked about the national anthem protests because at the time they seemed important. Today that is probably the last thing on anyone's mind. Last night, at a country music festival where some of my favorite artists were playing there was a mass shooting. This was a concert that was attended by mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters all alike; a concert that, a couple of days ago, I would've loved to be going to. But now I am more than grateful that I am on the other side of the country. People showed up united in their love for country music and many left on stretchers or in body bags as victims of the worst mass shooting in US history. So far, about 58 people have been pronounced dead and as many as 515 people have been injured. This attack all carried out by a 64 year old man that had no criminal history, and as of now, no clear motive. Hearing about things like these makes my head spin. I just don't understand how someone could possibly do something so terrible to unsuspecting innocent people. And the worst part is these kind of events are becoming more common, and they seem to be bigger each time. It's crazy that one person can do so much damage. When you orchestrate a shooting, you don't only hurt people physically, but also emotionally. You can scar people because of the traumatic experience, you also hurt everyone that cares about that person. There were over 22,000 people at the concert. All of those people have been effected forever by this tradgedy some way or another. Things like this make me question what this world has come to. People should be afraid to raise a child in the country they grew up in and love. I'm only sixteen. I should be worried about my grades and what college I might go to, not if I'll be safe when I get there. You shouldn't have to worry that the next time you go on vacation or to a concert that it might be your last day. The world seems to be on a downward spiral, but I still have some hope. The unity that we see after these tragedies is astounding. People come together, no matter who they are, in order to stand together. To stand in honor of those lost and against the violence we face so seemingly often. We need to stand together all of the time, not just after something terrible happens. We can't just let this sense of unity fade after a couple weeks. If we all worked together maybe we actually be able to make this world a better place for everyone; at least that should be our goal.
